WELLCAMP, VIA TOOWOOMBA

History

Killara White Dorper Stud is situated at Wellcamp near Toowoomba, Qld. Our interest in Dorpers began after realizing they were the breed of the future, being a meat sheep which required no shearing and could produce a lamb for market much earlier than other breeds. The result is a tender, succulent lamb with a beautiful flavour.

Rodney Rayner selected 6 Type 5 ewes and a Type 5 ram from Dries Weise, Tier Jordaan and Gert Ahler studs in South Africa as foundation white dorpers.

In 2008 we selected a new ram, an embryo from the Jordaan Stud in South Africa, Terraweena DAN 7157. To our delight, he was successful in winning the Interbreed Champion Ram at Gatton Show that year with two of his progeny winning Junior and Reserve Junior Champion on the same day.

Dan has improved the quality, muscling and hindquarters of our flock. His ewes have passed this quality on to their lambs producing very feminine ewes which have bred extremely well. Our many show championships from Dan ewes verify this.

Terraweena Lottie 9007, (twin brother to the ram who sold for $18,000 at the 2010 National) was purchased in September 2010.to join with Dan's ewes. Lottie is from the Gert Lotter bloodlines.

After seven years of breeding we have been successful in winning Championships at most of the local shows. This year at Toowoomba Show we won 3 out of 4 championships – Champion and Reserve Champion Ram and Reserve Champion Ewe, as well as 3rd in Interbreed Breeders Group

Our stud animals are typed annually by an Australian Dorper Society Endorsed Inspector.
